Teen's Brain Cancer Post-Surgery Goes Very Wrong

Video of Marissa. Click Here. Riverside, CA - Marissa was like any vibrant 17 year old - full of life with dreams, ambitions and hanging with friends. Then she hit a large speed bump in the road of life. She was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. Thankfully, everything was removed and hasn't returned -- no cancer and no tumor.

However, a couple days after the surgery in February 2008, Ataxia set in. Now she has motor skill challenges and is in a wheel chair. Her loved ones have created this website and ask that you please donate so Marissa can get the treatments to help her fully recover. These treatments are not covered by insurance. Please watch the video with this article and follow the updates below.

A Step In The Right Direction

Riverside, CA - Thanks to the generosity of family and friends, Marissa was able to pay the first injection on the road to recovery in November 2012. Although she did have improvements, her doctor says she still needs one or more injections. Please donate so Marissa can get the next round of treatments to help her fully recover. And also follow the updates below. Here's Marissa's video update June 2013...

UPDATE September 15, 2014 - The organizers at FightAtaxia.org intend to pass the ice bucket challenge donations and get Ellen DeGeneres to do the pie in the face challenge on her show. (This video is really shaky because Marissa filmed it.)

UPDATE June 10, 2013 - Posted video update above: "A Step In The Right Direction."

UPDATE January 25, 2013 - Marissa's mom wrote a children's book with Marissa helping on illustrations with the intention to raise money for a 2nd procedure at UCLA for Marissa and to help many others. 40% of profits will be evenly allocated to Children's Cancer Research and Stem Cell Therapy. To purchase books please go to Lulu.com

Besides these goals Marissa and her mom have begun passing out their books for free to seriously ill children at their local hospitals. They hope others will act in kind. Purchase 10-20 books and give to the pediatric ward at their local hospitals all across the USA! Marissa and her Mom's next stop is Loma Linda University Children's Hospital.

UPDATE: October 15, 2012 - Through this website and a local car wash sponsored by Carl's Jr. (@ Diamond Dr.) and the city of Lake Elsinore, Marissa received the procedure at UCLA. There were some improvements but not as much as expected. UCLA doctors informed us beforehand that some patients require 2 or 3 treatments for optimum results. This is the case for Marissa too. She needs more treatments. Please help.

UPDATE: February 5, 2012 - Fantastic News!! The fundraising car wash and website donations were a success. UCLA will be contacted Monday to schedule an appointment for Marissa's procedure. Thank you to everyone involved in the car wash and to all donors.

UPDATE: January 12, 2012 - Good news! UCLA's Institute for Neurological Research has discovered a simple procedure that repairs swelling and inflammation in virtually any brain trauma - including Ataxia. Doctors have witnessed incredible results in Ataxia patients including normal smooth movements in the arms and legs, better or normal speaking voice and even walking un-assisted using only a 4-prong cane.

After nearly four years of diligent, challenging and excruciating therapy, Marissa is excited to be one of the next patients. But she needs $3,900 to participate. If this procedure goes well, stem cell therapy may not be needed.
